I assumed I was. Money has enabled me to do a lot of things – things I thought were important.
Being competitive and having earned a lot of money, I assumed that I was motivated by it, so I was skeptical about studies that showed otherwise.
But as my wife and I have reinvented our lives around the principles of Vaikido and heroic contribution it has become increasingly clear how few problems money can solve and how little joy it actually can bring.
Many powerful experiences over the past several years have shown me that money motivates very few people.
I know a lot of very troubled wealthy people, but contrary to the popular saying, “Money is the root of all evil”, it’s not. Money is just a consequence of certain actions.
It’s the actions, the memories, and the level of life engagement that produce satisfaction or misery.
Doing what you love in the service of others will lead to great life enjoyment AND ultimately the money you need will follow.
