What does musical chairs teach?
Does it leave players more or less hopeful, more or less cooperative?
Musical chairs teaches children that there is always one seat too few in life, and that you better be faster and more aggressive than the other kid if you want to win.
This is not how prosperity is created. Prosperity is an interdependent game where people coordinate together for mutual and reciprocal benefit. Prosperity is a game where your reputation for caring about others matters.
We recently found a game called Cauldron Quest that has everyone play together against a common challenge.
It’s amazing how much this simple twist changes the whole dynamic. Suddenly we’re debating over the best move for the team instead of ‘competing’ against one another.
We have been taught that it’s a ‘dog eat dog world’.
But dogs don’t eat dogs.
